Commissioning Beautiful Bespoke Wall Art for a More Personal Home

Our client has a beautiful home but some areas were a bit dark and she wanted to add colour and life and to express more of her own individual style personality.

We explored a number of ideas for different areas of the house, from updating the lighting and reupholstering the sofas to adding colourful cushions and tweaking the gallery wall, progressed room by room.

There was one area in the hallway that cried out for some colour and we suggested commissioning a beautiful bespoke embroidered wall hanging, to go from ceiling to floor, over the skirting boards, which had the added advantage of covering a cupboard door that was rarely used. Our client loved this idea as it could pull in the colours from the 3 bedrooms off this hallway and really tie them together. She is a dedicated supporter of original local artists and mad for texture, so an embroidered art work was perfect.

Together we put together the design direction, bold tropical flowers and a personal palette of blues, bright rich yellows and terracotta/orange toned reds and commissioned talented embroiderer Lucy Freeman. After an initial design consultation, digital mockups and sample stitches were created and amended to ensure everyone was happy with the design and colours.

Lucy had never worked on such a massive bespoke piece (very few people have!) but she has a background in textile design as well as excellent embroidery skills and so we knew that she had the ability to translate the idea into a beautiful design.

The slow, hand embroidered process enabled our client to become deeply involved with the design development of the piece, adding touches that made it even more personal to her and her family. Positioned at the foot of the stairs to her daughters’ bedrooms, she asked Lucy to add birds and more hearts. A lovely finishing touch was the inclusion of the family initials hidden in the design details, a family secret they love.

It took months, and an enormous amount of hard work on Lucy’s part but the end result is well worth the wait and, most importantly, our client loves it. It is a fabulous reflection of her individual style, bringing colour and joy into what was otherwise a plain corner of the house.
