Sam Fynn, came to Decorbuddi at the beginning of the year, to help with her new venture – the launch of the Goji Pilates and Yoga studio (gojilondon.co.uk) in Clapham, London. We asked her to share her story here.

What Inspired you to launch the Goji Pilates & Yoga Studio?

“I have just resigned from a 7 year corporate background in AML compliance and the offshore tax reporting space. I needed a change in pace and was tired of working for someone else, especially as I have suffered from daily chronic migraines for the past 4 years. I found that yoga was a way to disconnect from the stress of my job as well as a way to move my body in a gentle way when I was suffering from chronic pain.

Mainly though, the impact on my mental health after just one yoga class is what inspired me to open my own studio, in particular giving myself the permission to be kind to my mind and my body. Being able to facilitate this for others is an absolute dream, and I have my now husband, Nick, to thank for pushing me to take the scary leap of leaving corporate life and starting my own thing.”

What is Special about Goji?

“Goji bridges the gap between a beautiful, high end boutique studio and an accessible, friendly space to connect. Our instructors have all been hand-picked by me for their unique ability to not only give you a good workout but also to leave you feeling empowered after just one class with them. Anyone can walk into any of our classes and feel welcomed: all exercises are accessible and are adapted for you and how you are feeling on the day.”

What is the Goji Vision?

“We want Goji to be a space where people can escape the chaos of life. Finding balance through connection, whether that’s connecting with their mind or connecting with local community. We have big plans for Goji and plan on expanding in the near future in similar spots to Clapham Old Town.”

How does the Pilates and Yoga Studio Interior Design help to Achieve Your Dream?

“Our space is designed to make you feel grounded as soon as you step foot into the studio. With warm, neutral tones in a minimalist setting, you instantly feel calm and focused, free of distractions from the outside world. Our flowing linen curtains and natural light that filters through them create a sort of ethereal and floaty feeling, whilst our neutral and earthy equipment is top of the range. We have some stunning, hand-woven baskets brought with us from our home country, Zimbabwe, that we will also be installing soon, as a subtle nod to our heritage.”

What Next for You and Goji?

“Whilst we’ve only been open for 2 months, but our community is already growing with pace. Anyone who steps foot into our studio comments on the beauty of the space, and how they instantly feel relaxed and grounded, which is exactly what we wanted to achieve! We are also running a few events, with many more lined up, that focus on community and connection through movement. We partner with our neighbouring cafes, pubs, run clubs, book clubs, and other communities designed to bring people together. These events are always such a success, full of lots of smiling faces and are a great way to meet new friends. We are excited to see where we go with these!”

Testimonial

Jenny was an absolute pillar of strength for us during the project, she was really reassuring when we felt like we were going crazy and worked with us on a very flexible basis as we were so busy during the project. Scott The Painter and his team worked incredibly hard, offered plenty of advice and also just did a stunning job with a new painting technique.” SW
