Provence

French Farmhouse

Nestled in the hills of Provence, we were asked to create a calm yet characterful design for this beautiful French Farmhouse. Working with our talented trade partners, we delivered a complete turnkey solution ready for our client to arrive and enjoy this peaceful sanctuary for the Summer.

The success of the design is found in the dramatic textural juxtapositions; humble, tactile rattans alongside hand-forged raw iron on the understated verandas; soothing, natural layers of muted linens mimicking the enduring landscapes; pops of crisp rosé pink and saffron yellow paralleling the local cuisine.

“The landscape of Provence provides much of the sensory and textural inspiration for this project: from the earthy terracotta hills to the blue-gold flashes of lavender on a beautiful ceramic piece, this project was designed to create a sense of refuge and tranquility.”

More About This French Farmhouse Renovation

Set in the rolling countryside of the South of France, this farmhouse renovation brings together the charm of rural French living with the quiet sophistication of British design. As British designers working in France, our aim was to create a serene and characterful retreat for an international client with homes around the world - a place to arrive, exhale and instantly feel at peace. By honouring the property’s rustic heritage while introducing a refined, sensory approach, the house now feels deeply rooted in its landscape yet effortlessly comfortable.

Interior Design Services Provided

This was a complete turnkey project designed in the UK and delivered seamlessly on site. We managed every detail: from concept development and design drawings to lighting plans, FF&E sourcing and full project coordination. Our UK-based team worked hand-in-hand with our trusted builders, artisans and specialist trades to ensure every element was implemented to the highest standard. We handled all purchasing, styling, and finishing touches - creating a home that is fully prepared for relaxed holidays, with a detailed housekeeping guide ready for the local management team.

Rooms Included in This Project

The renovation encompassed the entire property, including: kitchen, living room and dining area, hall, stairs and landing, master bedroom and bathroom, guest bedrooms, outdoor kitchen and dining, outdoor bar and relaxation area and pool terrace. Every space was designed to feel warm, comfortable and deeply inviting.

Design Style & Inspiration

The interior blends calm, understated elegance with gentle character. Inspired by the textures and tones of the Provençal landscape, we layered soft, earthy colours with natural materials and handcrafted elements. Vintage pieces, subtle pattern and tactile finishes create a soulful, lived-in feel - the kind of atmosphere that comes from thoughtful curation rather than decoration. As a British designer in France, working for an English client living globally, we sought the perfect balance between French authenticity and British restraint, resulting in a home that feels timeless, grounded and quietly luxurious.

Materials, Colours & Finishes

Natural materials lie at the heart of the design: weathered timber, stone, textured linens and rich, sun-washed hues that echo the surrounding countryside. We paired these with artisanal detailing and hand-painted wall and tile art to elevate the simplicity of the farmhouse architecture. The colour palette is gentle and harmonious, designed to enhance light, comfort and connection to the outdoors - from the intimate interior rooms to the expansive pool and dining terraces.

Furniture, Lighting & Sourcing

Furniture and lighting were carefully selected to create a relaxed but cohesive flow throughout the home. We sourced a beautiful blend of bespoke pieces, contemporary craftsmanship and characterful vintage finds, ensuring every item felt at ease within the setting. Layered lighting enhances the sensory quality of the interior, creating softness and warmth at every time of day. All FF&E, styling items and practical essentials were chosen, purchased and installed by our team, ready for effortless arrival.

Challenges & Solutions

Managing a full renovation abroad requires clarity, trust and strong local partnerships. We coordinated all communication between the UK and France, ensuring the design intent was translated precisely on site. The challenge of combining British design sensibility with traditional French architecture was met through a respectful approach: enhancing the farmhouse’s natural charm while refining it with thoughtful craftsmanship and detail.

Why the South of France Is Perfect for a Holiday Home Retreat

The South of France is synonymous with beauty, tranquillity and slow living - an ideal setting for a beautifully designed second home. Traditional farmhouses offer generous potential for sensitive renovation, with their stone walls, shaded outdoor spaces and connection to nature. With the right guidance from an international interior designer, these properties can become fully serviced retreats that feel personal, soulful and effortlessly ready to enjoy.
