Brook Green

Interior Design

The starting point for this Brook Green interior design project was to help curate a selection of art and interior items from our client’s existing collection. This included a mix of family heirlooms, furniture and interior furnishings.

Keen to repurpose rather than replace, every item was carefully considered, and retained where possible. We added new pieces and created a colour palette that successfully brought everything together.

Traditional with a modern twist, the result is an individual design that is perfectly tailored to our client’s taste and lifestyle.

"We discovered how colour, texture and pattern could transform the room by picking out colours from our art and rug to use for a new sofa and how to incorporate existing items through reupholstery. Steph went to a huge effort, supplying a range of suggestions and inspiration and it has made a real difference to our home."

More About This Brook Green Interior Design Project

Located in one of West London’s most characterful neighbourhoods, this project reimagines the main living room of a beautiful period property in Brook Green. Known for its elegant Victorian and Edwardian houses, leafy crescents and strong community feel, Brook Green is a highly sought-after area where architectural charm meets modern city living. Many homes here combine period craftsmanship with contemporary updates, making it an ideal setting for warm, characterful interiors.

For this family, who had completed a full renovation the year before, the living room was the one space that hadn’t yet received the attention it deserved. They wanted a room that felt grown-up yet inviting, elevated but full of personality - a joyful space layered with heirlooms, treasured pieces and new finds, curated with intention and sensitivity.

Our Role in the Design

Our work focused on the complete interior design of this substantial reception room, transforming it from an unfinished space into the emotional heart of the home. The owners wanted to find harmony between tradition and modernity .We began by curating the clients’ existing collection of art, furniture and decorative objects. This included family heirlooms, collected artworks and much-loved interior pieces that held sentimental value. We then introduced carefully chosen new items and developed a confident, colourful palette to bring everything together in a cohesive and beautifully uplifting way.

A Living Room Designed for Modern Family Life

As the teenage children already had a basement snug, this space could take on a more refined, grown-up atmosphere while still feeling warm and welcoming. The existing architectural context - Edwardian proportions paired with a striking crittall glass wall - provided the perfect foundation for a design that blends classic heritage with contemporary comfort.

We worked hard to create functional zones within what had originally been two separate rooms. Each area needed purpose, but the overall scheme had to feel unified, balanced and elegantly composed. The result is an elevated family living room where every corner serves a purpose, whether it’s reading, relaxing, conversation or quiet moments with the art and objects they love.

Style & Inspiration: Classic Meets Contemporary

The look and feel are best described as classic style, updated for today - refined without being rigid. Colour and pattern play an important role, echoing the layered character of the surrounding Brook Green streetscape. We mixed different eras with ease: embroidered curtains, a large Persian heirloom rug and a pair of mid-century rosewood armchairs, which we discovered in the clients’ bedroom and lovingly repurposed for the space.

One of the project’s defining elements is the pairing of two remarkable rugs - the Persian family heirloom and the Coral & Hive Florence rug, whose soft tones, handwoven texture and subtle pattern provided the perfect foil. Together, they anchor the room and set the tone for a luxurious yet deeply personal interior.

Materials, Colours & Finishes

The palette is joyful, bold and harmonious, reflecting the family’s love of colour and cherished possessions. Olive greens, berry tones, rich woods and layered textiles create warmth and depth. A balance of vintage pieces, contemporary design details and heritage references ensures the room feels both curated and comfortably lived in.

Throughout the space, materials were selected for longevity, layering and depth of feel - rich velvets - handwoven textiles, timeless upholstery and thoughtful finishing touches. The interplay of colour, texture and craft creates a room that delights the eye without overwhelming the senses.

Furniture, Art & Curated Pieces

This project was as much about editing as it was about adding. We curated the clients’ existing pieces, rehung their standout artworks and placed favourite heirlooms where their stories could be seen and felt. New pieces were sourced to complement these treasures rather than overshadow them, resulting in a room with emotional resonance and visual cohesion.

Working With a Period Property in Brook Green

But these spaces also benefit from thoughtful zoning, considered colour choices and pieces that harmonise old and new.

This project is a perfect example of how interior design can enhance what is already there: elevating a historic property with a curated, contemporary approach that reflects the lives of the families who live within these beautiful homes.
