Interior Design In Muswell Hill
Loft Renovation - Master Suite
This Muswell Hill interior design project involved the complete refurbishment of a generous attic master suite in a North London family home. The brief was to transform an awkward, cluttered top-floor bedroom and ensuite into a calm, hotel-style retreat that felt luxurious yet timeless. Through careful space planning, bespoke joinery and a cohesive material palette, the suite was reimagined as a tranquil, highly functional master bedroom tailored to modern living.
By reworking the layout and introducing intelligent storage solutions, we were able to unlock the full potential of the space, creating clear zones for sleeping, dressing and bathing. The result is a beautifully resolved master suite that combines understated luxury with everyday practicality - a calm sanctuary that enhances both the comfort and value of the home.

"The key to this project was bringing clarity and calm to a space that had wonderful volume but no sense of order. Once the layout worked properly, everything else followed naturally."
More About This Interior Design Project in Muswell Hill
Many properties in Muswell Hill benefit from generous loft spaces and strong architectural character, but these areas are often compromised by poor layouts or piecemeal alterations. In this case, the attic bedroom had impressive ceiling height and volume, yet felt chaotic and under-utilised. Scattered joinery, open shelving and dated finishes disrupted the flow, while the bed’s position under the eaves created unusable dead space and visual clutter.
As interior designers with experience working in Muswell Hill, our role was to bring clarity, purpose and elegance to the space, while responding sensitively to the proportions of the original house.
Designing a Luxury Hotel-Style Master Suite
The clients wanted the finished space to feel like a five-star hotel suite - calm, indulgent and beautifully resolved - while still feeling warm and inviting as part of a family home. A neutral palette, minimal colour and tactile materials were key, along with an ensuite that mirrored the bedroom’s sense of understated luxury.
By treating the bedroom, dressing area and bathroom as one unified composition, we were able to create a master suite that feels cohesive rather than segmented.
Improved Layout and Clear Zoning
One of the most impactful design decisions was to reposition the ensuite wall, allowing us to create a dedicated dressing and wardrobe area outside the bathroom. This instantly improved circulation and enabled each zone - sleeping, bathing and dressing - to function properly.
The bedroom was reconfigured around a centrally positioned bed facing the TV, anchored by a statement forest-green upholstered headboard. This not only establishes a strong focal point but also subtly references the leafy views typical of Muswell Hill homes, visible through the Juliet balcony doors.
Bespoke Storage for Calm, Clutter-Free Living
Thoughtful storage is essential in luxury interior design, particularly in attic conversions. Previously wasted eaves were transformed into streamlined drawer units, turning awkward corners into valuable concealed storage. This bespoke joinery allows the room to remain visually calm and clutter-free - a key component of the serene, hotel-like atmosphere.
The newly created dressing area further supports this sense of order, keeping clothing and personal items out of the main sleeping space.
A Soft, Neutral Palette with Depth
A refined palette of warm taupes and soft neutrals forms the foundation of the scheme, creating a peaceful backdrop that enhances natural light. Colour is introduced with restraint through the bed, headboard and accessories, adding depth without overpowering the space. This approach works particularly well in Muswell Hill homes, where greenery and outlook often play an important role in the overall feel of the home.
A Cohesive Ensuite Designed for Comfort
With storage relocated, the ensuite could finally be designed as a true bathroom rather than a compromised hybrid space. The new layout accommodates both a bathtub and a generous shower, with finishes selected to echo the warmth and simplicity of the bedroom. The result is a spa-like bathroom that feels connected, considered and quietly luxurious.
