Living Room Design
Our Approach to Living Room Design
Every living room tells a different story because every client lives differently. Some are designed for entertaining, others for quiet evenings, growing families, displaying treasured collections or simply creating somewhere to pause at the end of a busy day.
Rather than starting with a particular style, we always begin by understanding the people who will use the room. The projects featured above illustrate just some of the different ways we've approached that challenge.
It Starts with the Architecture
One of the first things we consider is rarely the sofa or the colour scheme. Instead, we look at the architecture of the room and ask whether it is providing the right foundation.
Should the layout change? Would panelling bring more character? Could new flooring connect spaces more successfully? Is there an opportunity to introduce bespoke joinery that feels as though it has always belonged?
At our Wentworth Estate project, bespoke wall panelling, architectural joinery and carefully selected flooring established the character of the room long before furniture and accessories were introduced. Creating that foundation allowed every subsequent design decision to feel cohesive and timeless.
Practical Challenges
Many clients come to us because their living room no longer supports the way they live. Perhaps the room feels disconnected from the rest of the house, there isn't enough storage or family life has simply evolved.
Our French Farmhouse project is a good example. Rather than simply refreshing the décor, we reimagined how the ground floor worked as a whole, creating a better relationship between the living spaces while ensuring each retained its own purpose and atmosphere.
We often find that solving the practical challenges first naturallads to a more beautiful room.
Bespoke Joinery
When we design bespoke joinery, the objective is never simply to create more storage. We want it to become part of the architecture of the room
At our Contemporary Villa project in Wimbledon, bespoke cabinetry frames the fireplace and television while providing space for books, artwork and personal collections. The joinery brings balance, permanence and practicality without dominating the room, allowing it to feel as though it has always belonged to the house.
Existing Furniture & Decor
Some of our favourite projects are those where we have been able to build upon what clients already love. We enjoy the opportunity to create a more personal design creating existing pieces that our client wants to keep.
Our Brook Green project centred around the careful curation of the client's artwork, favourite furniture and treasured possessions. Rather than replacing everything, we introduced new pieces that complemented the existing collection, together with carefully considered window treatments, layered lighting and soft furnishings. The result is a room that feels collected over time rather than designed all at once.
For us, creating a beautiful home is rarely about filling it with new things. It's about helping clients rediscover the value in the pieces that already bring them joy.
Cohesive Design
Living rooms are often used in different ways throughout the day, so atmosphere matters just as much as appearance.
Layered lighting, carefully designed window treatments, bespoke joinery, flooring, artwork and furnishings all work together to shape how a room feels. None of these elements should be considered in isolation. It is the combination of thoughtful decisions, each responding to the architecture of the property and the lifestyle of the client, that creates spaces with warmth, comfort and longevity.
Thinking About Your Own Living Room?
Whether you are redesigning a single room or undertaking a complete home renovation, we believe the best interiors begin with understanding the property and the people who live there.
