New Extension for Open-Plan Living
When our client bought this property, the previous owners had lived their for fifty years and it needed absolutely everything doing to it! They knew that it wouldn’t be their forever home, and so wanted to ensure that they created a new design that both suited their lifestyle and would maximise the value of the property. This was achieved by building a new large kitchen, living and dining extension with full width bifold doors leading out onto the garden.
There is a shared driveway that impacted on the shape of the extension which couldn’t be straight and had to to be angled. This was a particular challenge when it came to choosing the furniture – overcome by a balanced symmetry.
The client wanted a light filled calm and neutral palette with pops of colour to suit their growing family. She liked clean and minimal design and so everything was integrated. We created beautiful bespoke sprayed joinery across the living area to provide ample storage for the children’s toys and conceal a high spec audio visual system. LED lighting was tucked into the shelving, to add a layer of soft lighting.
A colour palette of muted greys, crisp white, pops of metallic copper and blush pink create a serene and inviting interior. A triple glazed skylight, high full width window with privacy glass (as this over looked the driveway) and bifold doors were incorporated to bring in as much light as possible to what had become, quite a deep space. Our client loves the quiet tones, simplicity of the layout and the feeling of light and space.
The individual kitchen design was achieved by combining Howdens base units with framed Shaker style cupboard doors, made by the builders to our design specification, in line with the clients requirements. This included leaving a slight shadow gap for extra depth. The doors were sprayed in Farrow and Ball Strong White to achieve a perfect, smooth finish.
Careful attention was paid to the design detailing and sourcing of accessories. Copper brassware, handles and glass and copper light fittings contrast with the pale toned ‘Inox’ by Little Green wall colours throughout. A triple glazed skylight provides an abundance of light throughout the space.
The Kitchen includes 2 Siemens steam microwave ovens, waste disposal, Bora down draft extractor and bespoke copper plated Hot Zip tap. The extra large mid grey concrete effect porcelain floor tiles offset the veined quartz composite worktops and kitchen island.
“After living in smaller separated rooms in our previous home, I love the total open plan configuration of the kitchen/ living and dining area. We spend about 80% of our time in this space and it’s perfect for the kids, leading into the garden. I just couldn’t be happier with the design. Thank you.”
