Alex Sherman
Interior Designer
“Having moved over from working as an upholsterer, I can help spot opportunities to restore what you already have. The process for me is helping you find the things you love.
Trademark features include a keen eye for fabrics and a colourful mix of antique and modern pieces. Layouts, visual aids and enjoying the journey are key.”
Alex trained at KLC and works in CAD, finding clients appreciate having lots of visualisation tools to help with decisions. She has a keen eye for fabrics having spent ten years running an upholstery business while raising a family and freelancing for industry leaders in interior design. She holds qualifications in traditional and modern upholstery and continues to spot opportunities for clients to incorporate vintage pieces or re-use what they already have in projects. Her first love however was film.
“I do tend to watch films with one eye on the wallpaper and another on the stair runner. Having worked in my 20s as a camera assistant, I hold dear those years spent watching and learning from the work of great set and lighting designers.”
Alex moved into a city legal career for her 30s, living and working in Paris, New York and Shanghai. Now located in Barnes, Alex relishes the process of taking her clients on an enjoyable journey from dream to reality.
In addition to her residential work she has designed for Kit Kemp creating a show stopping headboard for the Covent Garden Hotel and also helped with the redesign of a Hyde Park casino, built in the 1860s for Charles Dickens biographer.
“The building is an arts and crafts gem with a huge turquoise and green mosaic glass ceiling in the library. I have a particular love of the craftsmanship put into buildings of this era, and it was very special to design bespoke carpets and decorative paint effects staying true to the style of the period.”

Chelsea Apartment Interior Design
“We would absolutely recommend Decorbuddi! Our experience with Alex far exceeded our expectations and we had consulted other designers and design services. We tend to be busy, unfocused, particular and indecisive. Alex helped streamline our thoughts and ideas. She provided samples, examples, mood boards and exposure to so many resources and companies we were unaware of and unlocked the world of London design. She truly helped turn our tiny flat into a lovely home. I would give 6 stars if I could!”
Parsons Green Interior Design
“We faced the challenge of managing an interior renovation of our terrace house in Parsons Green from abroad. We knew we would need support and we were fortunate enough to find Decorbuddi’s services and through them, Alex Sherman.
Alex proved to be trustworthy, highly competent and detail orientated project manager who managed the entire process, sourcing all our service providers and signing off on contracts on our behalf when necessary. In addition, she is a talented interior designer with a wealth of knowledge and a digitally adept approach to presenting options to clients. A rare combination indeed and we have had a very happy and productive experience with Alex. We recommend her highly. ”
More About Alex Sherman
Based in Barnes and working across Fulham, Chelsea and wider South West London, Alex Sherman is a London interior designer known for creating elegant, atmospheric and beautifully detailed homes. Her work blends technical precision with a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, materials and storytelling. Her skills have been shaped by a remarkably diverse career spanning film, law and bespoke upholstery before she moved into interior design. Today she supports Decorbuddi interior design and renovation clients, based locally and overseas, seeking luxurious, finely crafted interiors.
Background & Career Journey
Alex’s professional path has always been rooted in creativity. Her first career was in film, working as a freelance camera assistant on features and commercials and as PA to the late Paul Arden in Soho. These early years observing the artistry of set and lighting design profoundly influence her work today, particularly her instinct for atmosphere, composition and the emotional qualities of a space. Her later time as a commercial litigation solicitor added a rigorous, analytical mindset to her inherent creativity.
While raising a family, she returned to hands-on making, running an upholstery business for nearly a decade and gaining formal qualifications in traditional and modern upholstery at The Cass. This work refined her understanding of fabrics, craftsmanship and the potential for repurposing cherished pieces - all of which now sit at the heart of her design philosophy.
She later trained in interior design at the KLC School of Design, where she built a strong technical foundation in CAD, space planning and 3D visualisation. Alex started her Decorbuddi interior design business in 2021, running alongside her upholstery business from her studio in Barnes.
